Sputtering Target Review
We haven’t written about sputtering targets in some time. But it’s worth revisiting the topic because money can be made recycling them. Sputtering targets are a very specialized kind of platinum scrap – and in some cases, of gold and silver as well.
Platinum Scrap and Beyond . . . There Are Many Kinds of Sputtering Targets We Can Recycle for You
We have written about sputtering targets before on the Specialty Metals Blog. To review, they are multilayered disks that contain several different metals. When they are secured inside a plasma plating tank and electrical current flows through them, their uppermost layer of metal (be it gold, platinum, or another metal) is dispersed into the plasma inside the tank. Due to the flow of electrons, it adheres to the surface of whatever metal object is being plated.
A Surefire Plan to Make a Lot of Money by Investing in Precious Metals
Many precious metal investors believe that they will make a lot of money if they look for “one big win” in their investing. They will find one batch of gold scrap, platinum scrap or even silver scrap, make a lot of money from it, and then they will be set for life.
Of course, that does happen. (We could tell you stories about times when it has.) But looking for one big high-paying batch of metal is not the most effective way to spend years investing and ending up with a large sum of money from investments.
Don’t Let Scrap Platinum Slip through Your Fingers
We all know that platinum is rare in nature. But does that mean that you can’t find it anywhere? Not at all. In fact, there are a lot of sources of platinum that people let slip through their fingers – sometimes literally so.
We don’t want you to do that. So in today’s post, let’s explore some places where you can probably find recyclable platinum scrap today. Ready? Here we go.
Sources of Genuine Platinum that Are Not Worth Recycling
There is an old saying, “All that glitters is not gold.”
A similar thing could be said about platinum, which is “Not everything that contains platinum is worth recycling.” How can that be? It is true because even though platinum is worth a lot of money, not every kind of scrap that contains it is worth recycling. Why spend $100.00 to extract $5.00 worth of platinum, for example? It wouldn’t make any sense.
Why the Ugliest Platinum Holiday Gifts Are the Most Beautiful of All
Let’s say that you want to give your favorite person a really special present for the holidays – something that stands out. Let’s also assume that you want to give a present that is made of platinum, because platinum is especially beautiful and memorable.
Are Sputtering Targets Your Best Buy in Platinum Scrap Today?
Are you interested in making money in platinum scrap? There are plenty of reasons you should be. The biggest could be that the new tariffs on items imported from China seem poised to raise the cost of platinum-containing items.
You’re Not Tossing Used Sputtering Targets from Plating Processes, Are You?
We’ve written about sputtering targets in the past, but a few recent calls made us think that this would be a good time to remind our readers that most used sputtering targets still contain precious metals that are worth extracting.
