Don’t Ignore these Often-Overlooked Sources of Gold
We have written on this blog about recovering gold from sources like printed circuit boards, cell phones, remote-control devices, and digital cameras.
Today, let’s look at other sources of recyclable gold scrap that you might have overlooked.
SIM cards: About one ounce of pure gold, worth about $1,700 can be recovered from 2,000 SIM cards
I don’t know about you, but right here on my desk, I have no fewer than five old SIM cards that I have used in my digital cameras to store photos and videos. I also have a few old iPhones, each of which contains a hidden internal SIM card-like device.
A lot of money can be found hiding in SIM cards, provided you can get your hands on a lot of them. And if you, like I, have five or six lying around, chances are that other people in your neighborhood do too.
Old Eyeglass Frames: 1,000 of them can contain about $500 worth of gold
We are talking about older gold-filled eyeglass frames, not newer “gold-plated” frames that contain hardly any gold. Note that these frames are usually stamped with a Karat gold rating, which makes them easy to identify.
So start by setting aside any older gold-filled frames that you have on hand, and then go on to collect unwanted frames in your neighborhood. Before you know it, you could have set your sights on a valuable pot of gold that we can recycle for you.
Late-Model Film Cameras: 500 of them can contain about $200 worth of gold
That’s right. Older non-digital cameras can contain printed circuit boards that contain gold. Look for late-model film cameras with advanced features like autofocus. Collect them and send them to us for recycling.
Solid Gold and Gold-Filled Religious Medals: Highly Valuable!
These are often found in dresser drawers and jewelry boxes owned by older relatives. And make no mistake about it, they can be worth a lot, depending on whether they are gold-plated, gold-filled, or made of solid karat gold.
How much are they worth? To find out, send them to Specialty Metals Smelters and Refiners to be tested. We will issue you a complete report on what your medals are made of, and what they are worth.
Call Specialty Metals Smelters and Refiners at 800-426-2344 to get the process started.
