Now Is a Good Time to Reclaim the Gold from Digital Cameras
With the holidays coming soon, are you hoping to receive a spanking-new digital camera as a gift? Or have you decided that the camera that is in your smartphone has gotten so powerful that you no longer need to own a digital camera?
In either case, the result is probably the same . . .
You will soon have at least one older digital camera that you no longer need, and maybe more than just one.
That is certainly the case in my home. I have no fewer than four older digital cameras that I no longer use – a little Leica, a Canon superzoom model, a really nice Olympus G-10, not to mention an older camcorder that doesn’t take video as well as my current iPhone.
Who needs those older cameras? I certainly don’t. But how much money can I get from recycling them? That’s the big question.
How Much Gold Does Each Old Digital Camera Contain?
Digital cameras all contain printed circuit boards that use gold. But to tell you the truth, the gold in each camera is probably worth only a dollar or two – maybe less.
That sounds like bad news. But here is something else to consider . . .
How many old digital cameras are sitting unused in your neighborhood?
If you, like I, have five or six of them sitting unused, chances are pretty good that other people are in the same situation and there are plenty of digital cameras waiting to be collected in your neck of the woods.
So why not collect them to raise funds for one of the following causes . . .
For your kid’s school
For your church, temple, mosque, or other house of worship
For your favorite local cause or charity
For a local hospital or health care facility
To benefit someone in your community who needs financial support for a medical or financial problem
You get the idea. Even though just one digital camera may not amount to much, their worth can really add up if you collect a number of them.
