Top Non-Precious Metals You Can Recycle for $$$
At Specialty Metals Smelters and Refiners, we are all about recycling gold scrap, silver scrap, and platinum scrap too.
But for our post today, we are stepping a bit out of our zone and writing about non-precious metals that you can recycle for money. (Certainly not as much money as you will get when you recycle gold, silver, and platinum but hey, money is money.)
And we are writing on this topic today for another reason too. It’s that people who collect precious metal scrap often end up owning other metals too. It kind of comes with the territory. You pull a computer apart for example, extract the gold, and end up with some pieces of copper, aluminum, and steel.
Please Note . . .
We cannot recycle the following non-precious metals for you, but we would like them to be on your radar. If you have any of them, a metal scrap yard near you will take them off your hands and buy them from you.
What are they? Here’s a list . . .
Copper
Copper is a common metal. You can find it in your home in the form of water pipes, electrical wiring, and even in gutters and unused flashing and other roofing materials. And as we noted above, it can also be found in computers, as well as other electronic devices. Copper is currently selling for about $4.00/pound.
Aluminum
Again, it is not a precious metal. But if you look around your home, chances are you will find some you can sell. You could find it in old aluminum siding, in gutters, and even in old windows and exterior doors you are about to toss away. And as we noted above, you could have some as leftover materials from thermocouples and even electronic devices. And soda cans? We bet you have some of them too. Aluminum is selling for about eight cents/pound.
Brass
Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc, and we’re willing to bet that you have some of it too. It’s used to make light fixtures, keys, doorknobs, and all kinds of other common items. Because brass is an alloy that is made up of copper and zinc, it’s value per pound varies.
Iron and Steel
Let’s face the fact that you are not going to make much money recycling these ferrous metals. But if you have them lying around, why not clear them out and make room – possibly for some precious metals? You will find iron and steel in your home in the form of shelving, closet hardware, and all manner of other stuff. Most forms of steel are currently selling for about $200/ton. Some alloys, like high-quality stainless steel, sell for more.
But Let’s Get Back to Precious Metals
As we write today’s post, gold is trading at $1,749.00, Platinum at $1,176.00, Palladium at $2,545.00 . . . and Rhodium at a whopping $25,000.00.
Again, we cannot buy or recycle non-precious metals. But if you have gold, platinum, and other precious varieties, give us a call at 800-426-2344. We are here to talk over your investment strategy with you.
