What to Look for when You’re Cleaning Out an Electronics Store or Supplier
If you’re clearing out an electronics store or supplier, you have good opportunities to find precious metals – most often gold – in many kinds of electronic devices.
Here’s a checklist of what to look for.
In Building Systems
This is the first place to look for precious metals – most often gold, which is found in small amounts in electronic equipment of all kinds.
Look for thermocouples used in central air conditioning and heating systems and also for lights, security cameras, and other safety and security equipment. And remember that many building systems (including heating and security) contain many components that contain circuit boards and, therefore, gold.
Electronics Are Everywhere
You can find many devices that contain gold, as well as silver and platinum in smaller quantities. Here are some items to be on the lookout for:
Mobile phones and other telecommunications equipment
Computers, tablets and all peripherals
Business systems, including cash registers, point-of-sale systems and credit card processing equipment
Chargers and other small pieces of peripheral equipment
Remotes that were used to control TVs, DVD players and other equipment
Stoves, air conditioners, refrigerators, space heaters and other devices that contain both microcircuits and thermocouples
Electronic signs and store displays
Flat screen TVs, DVD players, game consoles and other pieces of entertainment equipment
Solders, fluxes and other repair supplies
