What Effect Will the New Tax Law Have on Precious Metal Prices?

Let’s start out today’s post by answering the question that’s in the title . . .

What effect will the new tax law have on the value of your precious metals?

The answer is that nobody knows the answer to that question, even though plenty of people are writing their opinions on the topic.

In our opinion, the problem is probably that it is the wrong question to ask. It’s kind of like asking, “What will the value of pork bellies have on the value of municipal bonds?” There might be some connection and it is remotely possible that one trend is impacting on the other. But is there a link between the two? Probably, but it is all but impossible right now to say what it is.

With that said, here are some observations that are worth considering as you figure out whether to buy, hold or sell precious metals today . . .

People Are More Obsessed with Bitcoin Investments Now than They Are with Precious Metals

Everybody is talking about bitcoin and virtual currencies right now, and people seem to be more obsessed with investing in them than they are with investing in precious metals. But that doesn’t mean that we should forget about precious metals and focus on bitcoin investments instead. It’s a separate issue.

Some Investors Are Buying Precious Metals In Response to the New Tax Law

This could be because, as in the past, people turn to precious metals at times when other investments seem uncertain. That could be a good strategy. After all, precious metals have historically tended to remain stable as compared to other investments.  But it could also be that as people start to figure out the new investment landscape that is about to unfold, other investments like stocks and municipal bonds will start to look better and better too. We don’t know, and we don’t really think anyone does. We are all on unsteady ground.

Yet Recyclable Precious Metals Could Be A Wise Investment Today

Do you have catalytic converters, scrap silver or platinum, or other precious metals that you are waiting to recycle? They could be one of the smartest “buy and hold” or “hold” investments today, for the simple reason that it is possible to leverage extra value by recycling them in the future.
